Book editing services.
I love editing manuscripts. I really do. I have high passion for it. If you are a publisher or indeed an independent author seeking a professional editor, take a read of the below, then get in touch with me.

I work with experienced authors as well as those just starting out.
If you want your book edited to a professional standard and primed for publication, look no further.
I’ve managed to work my way into a very fortunate position when it comes to editing fiction novels. Not only do I work with a multitude of bestselling authors, but I also work very closely with a number of students who are just starting out on their journey.
This ensures I have unique professional experience that allows me to fully comprehend both the nuanced and distinct differences between amateur manuscripts and professional ones.
I know what it takes to put that professional glean on any novel. As you can see from my testimonials, authors enjoy working with me because I am open and honest.
“David has a keen eye for what works and what doesn’t and has excellent communication skills.”
– No. 1 Bestselling author Rob Ashman
I leave a copious amount of notes within their manuscript after cleaning it up, and also write up a personalised report that not only details the changes I have made but also talks the author, step-by-step, through the further work they will need to carry out in order to ensure their book is in the best possible shape it can be in.
I believe communication is key between editor and author. I’m not one to just write up a report and leave it at that. Ideally, I am looking to form long-term working relationships with authors. It’s preferable for me that the authors I work with are in it for the long-haul. I genuinely believe – and indeed preach when I am teaching – that an author greatly benefits from forging a strong, consistent working relationship with an editor over the course of their career. A writer who works closely with an editor over many books gives him/herself the best chance of success. If you are looking for an editor you can bounce ideas off and who can turn your manuscript into a publishable bestseller, then you’ve come to the right place.
I’ve worked with debutants who have gone on to have a lot of success, as well as well-established authors such as Rob Ashman, AB Morgan, Owen Mullen, and AJ Waines among many others. You can see, in the carousel below, some of the great titles I have been fortunate enough to work on. Whatever stage you are at, I am eager to help you get to the next level.
My rates are industry standard, in line with recommendations from the SFEP. Should they not fall in line with your budget, feel free to contact me to see if we can work something out between us. I offer a range of services.
My preference has been working with writers in the thriller genre, whether that be crime, cosy, psychological, horror, police procedurals etc, but I am open to collaborating with writers in different genres should my schedule permit.
Service | Cost | |
---|---|---|
Full developmental edit | £829 up to 80,000-words and then £5 per 1,000-words thereafter | |
Copy edit | £599 up to 80,000-words and then £4 per 1,000-words thereafter |
In a Full Developmental Edit I will supply you with detailed annotated manuscript notes that will right the wrongs of your novel (fixes of any spelling, grammar punctuation and all other technical element errors) as well as a proposal of any developmental changes I feel are required to improve your plot. You will also receive a detailed report that will offer my genuine opinion on your novel overall as well as a breakdown of the work I have carried out on it and a step-by-step list of the work you will need to carry out to perfect your novel. I aim to make the editing process as straightforward for the author as I possibly can.
A Copy Edit will ensure your manuscript is free of any spelling, grammar, punctuation and all other technical element errors. It does not include notes on possible developmental changes, nor a detailed report. This type of edit is all about cleaning up what is on the page, ensuring it is error-free.
